EPSOM AREA GUIDE

Epsom is a vibrant place to live, with its clocktower making it a memorable town in Surrey

Epsom’s clocktower is a memorable back drop for its vibrant town centre.

If you’re heading to Epsom for the day, or thinking about moving and living in Epsom, it’s good to know that this once-historic market town still has a lot going for it. Based just 15 miles southwest of London, Epsom has plenty of character both in its town centre and nearby. Popular with a range of ages, many young families do move out of the centre of London to Epsom - drawn to the bigger houses, larger gardens and good schools on the town’s doorstep. Crucially, for commuters, it’s easy to get to by train - serviced by both Southern and South West Trains.

The Epsom Clock Tower and Market

It’s an attractive town, thanks to the Grade 1 listed Epsom Clock Tower which is also the location of the town’s weekly market. On Saturdays, you’ll find loads of stallholders ranging from clothing to flowers and plants, but the main draw is the food. The fishmonger, butcher, bakery and greengrocer are all fantastic and dotted around them are plenty of food stalls to prepare food.

New Shops and The Epsom Playhouse

Behind the market square is the Ashley Center - a slightly forlorn collection of shops at the moment, but with a number of renovations happening in its midst. Most recently, a Gail’s bakery popped up at its front doors, which has been a fantastic addition to the town. Behind the Ashley Center is the Epsom Playhouse, which hosts a variety of performances, including theatre productions, live music, and comedy shows. The town is also home to a plush Odeon for films too.

Epsom Downs, Nonsuch Park and the Rainbow Leisure Centre

Residents of Epsom can also enjoy the expansive green spaces that surround the town. Epsom Downs, known for hosting the world-famous Epsom Derby, offers residents and visitors alike the opportunity to explore the vast open heathland and enjoy panoramic views of the Surrey landscape - all the way to London on a good day. The nearby Nonsuch Park provides a tranquil retreat, featuring formal gardens, woodlands, and historic structures. Epsom and Ewell Leisure Centre - known as the Rainbow Leisure Centre - is a great hub for recreational activities, featuring a swimming pool, fitness facilities, and sports courts.

There are countless schools in the area too - with Stamford Green Primary remaining perennially popular and keeping price houses high around it for years now. There’s also the private school Epsom College and Rosebery School for girls, to name just a few.

What we love about Epsom

  • Its Saturday Market and its monthly farmer’s market.

  • How quick it is to get into London, yet with Epsom Common and the Downs on the doorstep for country walks

  • It’s vibrant - there’s always something going on, with a buzzing atmosphere.
