Dog-Friendly Places
Our guide on where to go in Surrey with your four-legged best friend
Exploring Dog-Friendly Places Around Ashtead, Surrey
As a dog owner, finding places where your furry friend is not just tolerated but warmly welcomed can be tricky. Luckily, in and around Ashtead, Surrey, there's a wealth of dog-friendly spots that cater to both humans and their canine companions. Whether you're seeking a serene walk, a coffee break, or a delightful meal, there are plenty of options to explore. Here are our favourites:
Mayfield Lavender, Ewell
Nestled in Reigate Road, Ewell, Mayfield Lavender is a breathtaking expanse of lavender fields, a perfect spot for a scenic stroll with your furry pal. The vibrant colours and fragrant blooms create a wonderful atmosphere, with a coffee shop for your post walk treat.
Old Moat Garden Centre and Horton Country Park
The Old Moat Garden Centre is highly recommended by locals for its dog-friendly ambiance. You could have a coffee after finishing a leisurely walk around nearby Horton Country Park. So you get a double dose of doggy fun. The combination of a country walk (with easy parking) and the garden center's charm makes for an enjoyable outing with your canine companion.
Leatherhead's Dog-Friendly Gems
Leatherhead boasts a couple of welcoming venues for dog owners. "Charlie & Ginger" in Leatherhead is renowned for its dog-friendly environment, ensuring both you and your furry friend have a pleasant experience. You could mix this with a stroll along the nearby tow path - fab in the Summer thanks to the shade.
Epsom's Dog-Welcoming Cafes
Epsom presents a plethora of dog-friendly cafes, including Coffee #1, and D’s Coffee House on Manor Green Road. These places not only serve delicious food and coffee but also create a warm and inviting atmosphere for both two-legged and four-legged visitors.
National Trust Sites and More
For those who fancy exploring historical and picturesque sites, National Trust locations offer a dog-friendly environment. It's an excellent opportunity for your dog to socialise while you enjoy the beauty and history these sites have to offer. In Surrey, we’re spoilt for choice with Headley Heath and Box Hill nearby.
Chessington and Ashtead Garden Centre
While Chessington Garden Centre has updated its dog policy to limit access inside, there are still outdoor areas where your dog can accompany you. Ashtead Garden Centre, on the other hand, remains a welcoming spot for dogs and their owners.
Ashtead Common and the Barn KT9
The common is a great place for long walks - and often ones that you don’t have to repeat thanks to the plethora of paths you can take. We love any jaunt that means we end up at the Barn KT9. The cafe there has fab coffee (as well as premade cocktails) and pastries en mass. At the weekend they sometimes have pop up cafes and restaurants putting on food.
Ashtead Cafes
In Ashtead, there are a number of places you could take your pooch. In the Summer months, you could go through Ashtead Park and walk into Rainbow Garden Centre where D’s coffee has a truck. Otherwise, there’s Ashtead Living’s favourite, the Rye Cafe where dogs are welcomed warmly. Ashtead Cafe also allows in dogs and if the weather allows, you could nab a table outside Handleys on the high street.
Etiquette Reminders
It's important to note that while these places are dog-friendly, responsible pet ownership is key. Always keep your dog on a leash where required, clean up after them, and ensure they are well-behaved to maintain the harmony of these locations.
