Guildford’s high street is one of the best in the country.
Guildford is a true Surrey gem. Arguably one of the first commuter towns, Guildford is a fantastic town to both live in and visit. Managing to find that tough balance of being unique while also having every shop or everything you need right in the Surrey Hills, it’s hard to find any faults. It's exceptionally quaint, too, thanks to its cobbled streets and Tudor architecture and has so much on offer in terms of culture, things to do and places to eat and drink.

Shopping
Guildford's High Street is a shopper's paradise, lined with an eclectic mix of boutiques and high-end retailers next to the likes of Zara, Marks and Spencer and H&M. What’s also really great is that the high street is attractive. It’s not a characterless retail outlet centre. The high street is down a pretty hill, leading to the river, with architecturally interesting buildings on either side. Off it are lots of alleyways and side streets, also jam-packed full of little gems.
Places to Eat
Guildford's culinary scene is thriving. Increasingly, there are more and more wonderful eateries opening up, as well as its farmers’ markets too. There’s a huge range to suit every taste and budget - starting with your usual suspects - Pizza Express, Wagamama’s and Starbucks, but also some other names that are quickly springing up - Megan’s, The Ivy, The Ivy Asia, and the Cosy Club. There really is no shortage of places to eat - whether you are looking for a quick bite or a longer lunch or dinner, you’ll never go hungry in Guildford.
Places to Drink
Guildford's watering holes are a testament to the town's vibrant atmosphere. There are countless places to have a quick drink, or settle in for a long catch up with friends. We love the bar at the Ivy Asia - with its slightly different decor and brilliant cocktail list adding up to the makings of a night out with a difference. The March Hare is also a great pub, while the Star Inn is a veritable rabbit warren of rooms where you can sit down and have a beer. It often has live music too.
Things to Do
If you’re looking for things to do, Guildford has activities in spades. The famous Spectrum Centre has been entertaining families for decades now - with its ice skating rink, swimming pool with slides, soft play and countless other activities. Outside, Stoke Park is always great for families or friends looking to catch up too. It hosts the firework display every year, while in the Summer it’s got a fab play park for little ones and a skate park as well.
Cultural Spots of Interest
Guildford is steeped in culture, boasting a range of artistic and historical attractions. Explore the Guildford Castle, a symbol of the town's rich heritage, or take a stroll along the River Wey Navigation. It’s a pretty walk, with a pub or two along the way for a pit stop! Yvonne Arnaud Theatre is also great for catching plays, pantos or musicals.

It’s laid back and great for meeting up with friends in a slightly quieter atmosphere than the average All Bar One.
